The protection of sensitive information against unauthorized access or fraudulent changes has been of prime concern throughout the centuries. Cryptology is foundation of all information security. It is the study of cryptosystems, can be subdivided into two disciplines. Cryptography concerns itself with the design of cryptosystems, while cryptanalysis studies the breaking of cryptosystems. It is a part of modern daily life. As electronic banking and various financial, medical, and legal databases depend on cryptology for security. Currently, the main focused is on parallel implementation of cryptographic algorithms, Performance analysis, development of key schedules, different methodologies of designing of S Boxes and image encryption using block ciphers.

This program is by far the oldest at PIEAS. More than 1300 engineers and scientists have graduated under this program over the past four decades and today they form the backbone of various projects of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission and other strategic organizations. The participants of this program are taken from almost all the engineering and scientific disciplines. This diversity is just one of the imperatives of the multi-disciplinary nature of nuclear engineering itself. It has always been a stimulating challenge for the faculty to guide a group of people with different backgrounds towards the unified goal of understanding the complex systems and processes involved in nuclear technology.
The MS Radiation Physics program was launched in 2014 to meet the requirements of PAEC for expansion of Nuclear Power Program along with allied Nuclear Fuel Cycle Facilities. The program aims at development of graduate students in the area of Radiological Protection, Environmental Dispersion, NPPs impact Monitoring & Dosimetry, Radioactive Waste Management, Nuclear Emergency Handling, NPPs Site Selection, Reliability & Risk Assessment and Nuclear Safety Analysis. Department is equipped with advanced laboratories including Health Physics Lab., Radiation Shielding Lab., Radiation Interaction and Detection Lab., Environmental Monitoring Lab., Advanced Computational Reactor Engineering Lab., PWR Simulation Lab., and Hazardous Air Pollutants Lab. The degree is offered to the students having 2-year M.Sc. Physics degree or a 4-year B.S. Physics degree.
