Biography
Dr. Qamar received his PhD degree from the Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan in 1993 working under the supervision of Prof. M. Suhail Zubairy. He did his post-doctoral studies at Max-Planck Institute for Quantum Optics, Garching, Germany, and Texas A & M University, College Station, Texas, USA. He held visiting appointments at Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong, Texas A & M University, College Station, Texas, USA and the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy. In 1994 he joined Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Lehtrar Road, Islamabad, Pakistan where he is presently a Professor in the Department of Physics and Applied Mathematics. His research interests include quantum optics and laser physics. He has been interested in quantum state tomography, quantum tunneling, quantum interference and non-classical states of radiation field. His other interests include, quantum computing, atomic grating, high precision measurement, and entanglement generation using cavity-optomechanics. He has been an Associate Member of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy. He was awarded order of Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the president of Pakistan. He has received Dr. M. Raziuddin Siddiqi Prize (Gold Medal) in the field of Physics by the Pakistan Academy of Sciences and Best University Teacher Award by the Higher Education Commission, Islamabad.
